TERROIR
Istria
At the northern edge of the Mediterranean, between the Adriatic Sea and the landscapes of the Istrian peninsula, olive trees have grown for more than two thousand years.
Here, Mediterranean warmth meets a cooler continental influence. Sea, soil, changing seasons and the powerful Bora wind create a distinctive environment — demanding, yet remarkably suited to the olive tree.
An ancient olive-growing land
Olive oil has been part of Istria’s story since antiquity.
Under Roman rule, the peninsula became an important centre of olive cultivation and oil production in the northern Adriatic. Its oil travelled beyond Istria along the trade routes of the Roman world.
Along the western coast, skilled craftsmen also produced large numbers of amphorae, including the Dressel 6B vessels used to transport olive oil. Today, these archaeological traces remain a powerful symbol of Istria’s ancient culture of agriculture, craftsmanship and exchange.
A tradition that endures
Empires disappeared. Trade routes changed. The olive trees remained.
Today, this ancient tradition meets modern knowledge. Careful cultivation, precise harvesting and contemporary extraction methods preserve the character of the fruit and the place from which it comes.
Our olive oils are born from this landscape — shaped by the soil, the sea and the Bora, and rooted in a tradition more than two thousand years old.
